The 12th T20 match of the Pakistan Super League was fought between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators at National Stadium, Karachi on 2 March 2021. Islamabad United won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Saim Ayub and Cameron Delport were sent on the crease to open for the United and Hasan Ali got the new ball in hand to open the attack.
Quetta did not get a good start and had lost their 4 wickets at the score of 41 runs only before the end of the mandatory Powerplay. Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf performed very well with the ball and demolished the top order of the Gladiators. Sarfaraz Ahmed at the number 4 position tried to handle the situation very well and contributed 54 runs from 41 balls but did not get enough support from other batsmen. Finally, the team could make a defending total of 156 runs after the end of the 20 overs. Faheem Ashraf took 3 wickets and Hasan Ali got 2 wickets for his team and both of them were very economical. Islamabad United needed 157 runs from 120 balls to win the 12th match of PSL 2021.
Paul Stirling and Alex Hales were on the crease to chase the target and Mohammad Nawaz got the responsibility to deliver the first over. Quetta needed some early wickets and Islamabad wanted to dominate the Gladiators by batting also. Islamabad got a very good start and had made 76 runs at the loss of 1 wicket at the end of the first mandatory Powerplay. Both the openers had built up the opening partnership of 76 that supported other batsmen to free their arms with the bat. Paul Stirling performed very well and played a match-winning inning of 56 runs from just 33 balls with eight 4s and two 6s. The united got the target of 157 runs very easily in 17 overs. Thus, Islamabad registered its 3rd victory in the PSL 2021 sixth session.
Islamabad United won the 12th match of PSL 2021 by 6 wickets with 18 balls remaining and Faheem Ashraf was named Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
