The 3rd T20 match of the Pakistan Super League 2021 was fought between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans at National Stadium, Karachi on 21 Feb 2021. Islamabad United’s captain won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Mohammad Umar for Multan Sultans and Mohammad Wasim for the United were going to debut. Mohammad Rizwan and Chris Lynn were sent to the middle to open. Hasan Ali got the new ball in hand.
The Sultans did not get a good start and lost the wicket of Chris Lynn at the score of 4 runs only. After the dismissal, James Vince came to join Rizwan but could not stay longer and was sent back by Lewis Gregory. Multan had put 100 runs on the scoreboard in 12.2 overs at the loss of 4 wickets. The team was struggling but Mohammad Rizwan played a captaincy inning of 71 runs that helped the squad to reach 150 runs at the end of 20 overs. Mohammad Wasim, who was playing his first T0 match, was the hero and took three wickets for his team. Lewis Gregory also bowled well and got 2 wickets. Islamabad United got the target of 151 runs from 120 balls.
Philip Salt and Alex Hales came out to the middle to chase the target. Sohail Tanvir got the new ball to open the attack. Tanvir was a bit expensive but Mohammad Umar got the first breakthrough for his team. After the end of the mandatory Powerplay, the united had scored 39 runs at the loss of 1 wicket. The United came under pressure when they lost 3 quick wickets at the score of 73, 74, and 74. Shahid Afridi did well with the ball and showed excellent skill in the field also. He took 2 wickets for his team and dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed as a run-out. Islamabad was struggling but the match-winning inning of Lewis Gregory helped the United to achieve the target in 19 overs.
Islamabad United won the 3rd T20 match of PSL 2021 by 3 wickets with 6 balls remaining and Lewis Gregory got the Man of the Match award for his excellent inning of 49 runs.
