The 44th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was fought between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne on 19 Jan 2021. Brisbane won the toss and invited the Scorchers to bat first. Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone were sent to open the inning for the SCO. Xavier Bartlett got the new ball to open attack.
The Scorchers did not have a good start and lost Jason Roy at the score of 5 runs only in 1.1 overs. After the dismissal of Roy, Colin Munro came to join Liam. Liam could not execute well and returned after losing his wicket in the 4th over. Then Josh Inglis came to support Munro. By the time Inglis came to bat at number 4 position, SCO had put 37 runs on the board after the end of the first Powerplay. Jason Roy again performed brilliantly and played 42 runs innings. Finally, Perth Scorchers had scored 174 runs in 20 overs, including 24 runs of the Ashton Turner.
Brisbane Heat needed 175 runs from 120 balls to win the match. Max Bryant and Chris Lynn were sent to chase the target. On the other hand, Jhye Richardson was all set to attack. In the beginning, Brisbane had lost their first wicket of Bryant at 9 runs only in 1.4 overs. Joe Denly was sent to join Lynn and handle the situation. After the end of the first Powerplay, Brisbane had made 38 runs at the loss of 1 wicket. Lynn and Denly tried well but after losing the wicket of Lyn in the 46 runs, Brisbane Heat could not get back into the game. Thus, the whole team bowled out at only 115 runs in 16.4 overs.
Perth Scorchers won the 44th BBL match by 59 runs and Colin Munro was the Man of the Match for his match-winning performance.
