The 10th Match of Big Bash League was played between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena Stadium on 19th Dec 2020. Hurricanes won the toss and invited the opposition team to bat first. MW Harvey & JA Prestwidge were the super subs players for Renegades and J Botha & NP Winter for Hurricanes.
Shaun Marsh and Jack Fraser-McGurk came to open for Renegades and James Faulkner got the new ball. It was not a good start for Renegades and they lost their 2 wickets very early in the first two overs at the score of 4 runs only. Sam Harper and Rilee Rossouw came to handle the situation. Both of them played well and built a partnership of 109 runs. Sam Harper made unbeaten 66 runs and Rossouw added 59 runs to the scoreboard. Finally, Renegades set a target of 158 runs in 20 overs for Hurricanes. Scott Boland bowled well and he took 2 wickets for his team.
D’Arcy Short and Will Jacks came to open for Hurricanes and Josh Lalor got the new ball. Hurricanes also lost their 1st wicket very soon in the first over. Then Ben McDermott came to join Jacks after the dismissal of Short. Hurricanes lost their 2nd wicket in the 4th over as a run-out and they made 33/2 runs at the end of the first power play.
At that time, HOH needed a partnership to chase the total and the beautiful inning of Ben McDermott made it possible. He made unbeaten 89 runs from just 55 balls with seven 4s and five 6s. Tom David also contributed 21 runs from only 12 balls. In this way, Hurricanes easily achieved the target in just 17.4 overs with 14 balls left.
Hobart won the match and got 4 points. It was the third victory for HOH in BBL 2020. Ben McDermott was given the Man of the Match award for his superb inning of 89 runs.
