The 4th or last test match of the Border-Gavaskar Test series between Australia and India was played on January 15-19, 2021 at The Gabba, Brisbane. This was the series-deciding match. Australian captain Tim Paine won the toss and elected to bat first.
David Warner and Marcus Harris opened the inning for Australia. Mohammed Siraj started the bowling attack from India and took the wicket of David Warner in the 1st over of the match. The Indian team took 2 early wickets of Australia on just 17 runs. Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith made 70 runs partnership for 3rd wicket. Steven Smith got out on 36 runs to debutant Washington Sundar. Marnus Labuschagne played a brilliant inning and made 108 runs for Australia. The Indian team was struggling at 186/6 then Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur made a brilliant partnership for the 7th wicket. They made a partnership of 123 runs and changed the momentum of the game. Shardul Thakur made most 67 runs for India and Washington Sundar made 62 runs. Indian team made 336 runs in 1st inning. Australian team took a lead of 33 runs. Josh Hazlewood took 5 wickets for Australia.
David Warner and Marcus Harris gave a brilliant opening start of 89 runs in the 2nd inning to Australia. Warner made 48 runs and Harris made 38 runs. Steven Smith made most 55 runs for Australia in the 2nd inning. Australian team got all out on 294 runs and Mohammed Siraj took 5 wickets for India. It was a target of 328 runs for India to win the match and the series. Rohit Sharma got out early on 7 runs to Cummins in the 2nd inning. Cheteswar Pujara and Shubman Gill made a brilliant partnership of 114 runs for the 2nd wicket. Shubman Gill played a quality inning and made important 91 runs for his team in the 2nd inning. Cheteswar Pujara played one more reliable inning and made 56 runs. Ajinkya Rahane got out early on 24 runs but Rishabh Pant finished the game for India. He made not out 89 runs for India and played a matured inning. India won the Test match by 3 wickets and the series by 2-1. Rishabh Pant was selected as player of the match for his match-winning batting performance.
