The 50th match of 2020 IPL was played between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, where Rajasthan was captained by Steve Smith and Punjab was led by Lokesh Rahul. RR won the toss and chose to field first. The match was played on 30th October at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
Batting first Kings XI Punjab inning was initiated by Lokesh Rahul and Mandeep Singh, but the start of the inning was not good as Mandeep Singh got out in the first over without making any run. Chris Gayle joined Rahul to carry the inning ahead. They both played well and hit big shots that placed the team in a sound position. Gayle started slowly, but after a few balls, he displayed his form and completed his half-century. In the 15th over, Rahul got out at an individual score of 46 runs, and hence the team score was 121/2. Nicholas Pooran came to pitch and started playing well with Gayle. In the 18th over, he also got out at an individual score of 22 runs, which he made in 10 balls only. Gayle played a fantastic inning but unfortunately got out at 99 runs and left one run short of making a century. Glenn Maxwell and Deepak Hooda completed the inning of KXIP, where it made 185 runs at a loss of 4 wickets. RR was given the task of making 186 runs in 20 overs. From RR, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes got the highest 2 wickets each.
Inning of Royal Challengers Bangalore was started by opening pair of Robin Uthappa and Ben Stokes. They both played quick shots and made a partnership of 60 runs in 33 balls. In the 6th over, Stokes got out at an individual score of 50 runs. Sanju Samson joined Uthappa to chase the score, and they both also played well. In the 11th over, Uthappa also got out at an individual score of 30 runs, and hence the score of RR was 111/2. Samson was joined by Steve Smith to chase the target. In the 15th over, Samson also got out, and Jos Buttler joined Smith. However, the match was almost in favour of RR till then. Smith and Buttler achieved the target in 17.3 overs, and RR won the match by 7 wickets, leaving 15 balls spared. From KXIP, Murugan Ashwin and Chris Jordan each got 1 wicket. Ben Stokes was declared as the player of the match for his inning of 50 runs in 26 balls and 2 wickets, giving 32 runs in his spell of 4 overs.
