The second T20 match of IPL 2020 was between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab on 20 Sep. 20. It was played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The team of DC was led by Shreyas Iyer, while Kings XI Punjab was captained by K L Rahul. KXIP captain K L Rahul won the toss and chose to field first.
The inning of Delhi Capitals was started by openers P Shaw and S Dhawan, but in the second over, only Dhawan, an important player for the team, got run out by K L Rahul. Dhawan had to return the pavilion without making a single run (duck). In a few minutes, even P Shaw was caught by C Jordan and had to return at the score of 5 only. S Hetmyer could also not play well and got out at the score of 7 only. However, captain S Iyer tried to play a good inning, and he was supported by R Pant. Pant made 31 runs in 29 balls, and Captain Iyer made 39 runs in 32 balls. However, after the partnership of Iyer and Pant, no other batsman could make a good score except M Stoinis. Stoinis played well and made 53 runs in 21 balls. With the help of a good inning from Stoinis, DC was able to make 157 runs in their 20 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. From KXIP, Shami proved to be the most effective bowler he took the most 3 wickets. DC had set a target of 158 runs for KXIP, which seemed a challenging task due to slow pitch.
From Kings XI Punjab , K L Rahul and M Agarwal opened the innings. Both openers gave a good start to the team, and at one stage, it was looking like an easy victory for KXIP. But captain Rahul got out at the team score of 30. He made 21 runs in 19 balls. However, on the other side M Agarwal played well and kept the scoreboard running. No other batsmen could sustain on the pitch for long, and KXIP also ended with 157 in their 20 overs. K Rabada got the most 2 wickets from DC. The match was declared a tie, and it was the time for super over.
It was the first super over of IPL 2020 and In the Super Over, K L Rahul and Nicolas Pooran came onto the ground to bat for Kings XI Punjab. Delhi Capitals’ captain Shreyas Iyer gave the ball to Kagiso Rabada as he was able to bowl Yorkers with almost 150 Kmph. K L Rahul was on the strike and going to face the first ball of Kagiso Rabada. Kagiso Rabada bowled to the leg side and K L Rahul easily made 2 runs by hitting the ball towards fine leg. The score was 2 runs from 1 ball. On the second ball, K L Rahul tried to make some room for him but Kagiso Rabada bowled a shorter length ball towards him. K L Rahul played it in the air and was caught by Axar Patel on the leg side. Kings XI Punjab lost his first wicket on 2 runs. Glenn Maxwell came to join Nicolas Pooran. Now, Pooran was on the strike but Kagiso Rabada bowled really well and took the wicket of Nicolas Pooran on the third ball. Kagiso Rabada took 2 consecutive wickets on two balls and ended the Kings XI Punjab innings at only 2 runs. Now, Delhi Capitals needed only 3 runs from 6 balls to win the match.
For the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer came to bat, and the ball was given to Mohammad Shami. Shami bowled his first ball really well and it was a dot ball. Then, Mohammad Shami lost his control on the second ball and bowled a wide ball. Delhi Capitals got an extra 1 run from wide delivery. Now, Delhi Capitals needed only 2 runs from 5 balls. The second ball of Mohammad Shami was the fuller length delivery on the leg of Rishabh Pant. Pant easily played it towards fine leg and took 2 runs very comfortably. In this way, Delhi Capitals achieved the easy 3 runs target from 2 balls and won the match. Marcus Stonis was declared the Man of the Match for his excellent performance with both bat and ball in the match. He not only made 53 runs from 21 balls but also took 2 wickets in the match.
