India cricket authority (BCCI) has announced that India will welcome Australia in the coming month of November 2023 in order to play a bilateral T20 series. The BCCI and Cricket Australia have finalized the dates and venues of upcoming India vs Australia T20 series 2023. Ind vs Aus T20 series 2023 will comprise 5 matches that will run from November to December.
Ind vs Aus T20 series 2023 will kick off their journey with the 1st T20 on 23 November at Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Then both teams will move to Thiruvananthapuram to contest the 2nd T20 at Greenfield International Stadium on 26 November. The 3rd T20 will be held in Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on 28 November, and then Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur will welcome both squads for the 4th T20 on 1 December. Ultimately, the final match of the series will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on 3 December 2023.
It is yet to be declared but most probably, Hardik Pandya will take charge of captaincy under the guidance of Rahul Dravid. On the other hand, Pat Cummins will take the responsibility of captain for Australia under the coaching of Andrew McDonald. As of August 2023, India is holding the first position in the ICC T20 team ranking whereas Australia is at the 6th position.
The last time, when Australia came to India for the T20 series in 2022, they lost the 3-match series by a margin of 2-1. In that series, Cameron Green came out as the top scorer with 118 runs and Axar Patel took the most wickets. It would be interesting to note that Australia has never been able to win a T2 series against India since 2018/19.
In terms of head-to-head in T20I, India and Australia have faced each other in 26 matches where India got the upper hand by winning 15 matches and Australia could win only 10 matches. Overall, Australia has appeared in 174 T20 matches where they could win 91 while facing defeat in 76 T20s. On the other hand, India has faced 201 T20Is where they achieved victory in 127 and faced defeat in 65 T20s.
