India is all set to visit West Indies in the coming month of July and August 2023 for playing the 5 T20Is bilateral series with West Indies. The final dates and venues of all the matches of the India tour of West Indies 2023 have already been made public by Cricket West Indies.
The West Indies vs India T20 series 2023 will kick off with the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on 3 August, then both the squads will head over to Guyana for playing the 2nd T20 in Providence Stadium on 6 August. On 8 August, both teams will see each other in the 3rd T20 at the same venue. Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida will host the 4th T20I of the series on 12 August, and ultimately the last T20I of the WI vs IND T20 series 2023 will be held in August at the same stadium in Florida.
While the official confirmation is still pending, it is highly likely that Rohit Sharma will be appointed as the captain of the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming series in West Indies, with Rahul Dravid serving as the team's head coach. In contrast, West Indies is expected to select Rovman Powell as their captain, with coaching guidance from Daren Sammy. Presently, India holds the top position in the ICC T20 team rankings, whereas West Indies currently stands at the 8th position.
Recalling the previous T20I series between West Indies and India, took place when India embarked on their tour of the West Indies in July-August 2022. Arshdeep Singh's consistent performances earned him the prestigious Man of the Series award. Ravi Bishnoi became the leading wicket-taker securing an impressive tally of 8 wickets during the WI vs Ind T20 series 2022. On the West Indies side, Simron Hetmyer emerged as their top run-scorer with 115 runs, exhibiting his explosive batting skills. Meanwhile, Obed McCoy proved to be a valuable asset, finishing as their leading wicket-taker with 9 wickets.
In terms of head-to-head in the shortest format of the game, India and West Indies have appeared in 25 matches against each other where India ruled over Windies by winning 17 matches. On the 7 occasions only, West Indies could achieve victory against India. Overall, West Indies has played 179 T20Is where they defeated their opponent in 73 and faced defeat in 93 matches. On the other hand, India has appeared in 199 T20Is out of which they successfully won 130 matches and saw defeat in 63 matches.
