Scottish middle order collapse results in a loss in the first ODI - Netherlands began their Scotland tour of 2014 with the first One Day International being played in Glasgow. The game started off with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat first.  The Dutch side didn’t have a good start as in the third over the team lost their opener Stephan Myburgh. The other opener Michael Swart was the star of the batting from the Dutch as he top scored with 62 runs. He was well accompanied by Eric Szwarczynski and Michael Rippon as these batsmen together helped their team to reach a total of 252 in 50 overs. Josh Davey and Michael Leask took 2 wickets each.

Chasing the score of 253 the Scottish side had a good start with openers scoring 38 runs for the first wicket. Then the team also enjoyed a good partnership between Calum Macleod and Hamis Gardiner. Soon the team reached a total of 79 for the loss of 2 wickets. Later Preston Mommsen joined the onslaught and along with Gardiner took his team cross the 150 run mark in just 32 over. Gardiner scored 52 runs while Mommsen scored 45 runs. The team then from 157/2 came crashing down to 182/7. The team never got the time to recover back and lost all their wickets in 45th over. They managed to score only 208 runs losing the match by 44 runs and thus the Netherland side lead the series by 1-0.
