After a long interval of 24 years, the Australian Cricket Board has confirmed that they will travel to Pakistan for a 3 test match series in the month of March-April in 2022. This test series will be a component of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023. It was a brave decision taken by the Australian Cricket Board to visit Pakistan after New Zealand had already suspended their tour to Pakistan due to security reasons. Last time Australia Tour Pakistan in 1998.
Pakistan vs Australia test series 2022 will be commenced with the first test match on 4 March 2022 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. The second test will begin on 12 March 2022 at National Stadium, Karachi and the last one will be held at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on 21 March 2022.
Currently, Tim Pane is the captain of the Australian team so most probably the Australian team will come to Pakistan under the leadership of Tim Pain. On the other hand, Babar Azam will lead the Pakistani team for 3 test matches. Both the skippers have a big difference in their ICC test ranking, Babar Azam is at the number 7 position whereas Tim Pane is standing at the number 39 position in ICC Test player ranking. The Australian team is at the number 3 position in the ICC Test team ranking, on the other hand, Pakistan is not so far and stands at number 5 position. Australia is packed with great and experienced batters, bowlers, and all-rounders, so it will not be easy for Pakistan to compete against one of the greatest teams in the cricket world.
Both the teams played their last test match against each other at Adelaide on Nov 29 - Dec 2 2019 where Australia won the match by an innings and 48 runs. David Warner played an incredible innings of 335 runs and Marnus Labuschagne made 162 runs in that match. At that time, Pakistan was on a tour of Australia for 2 test series and Australia won that series by 2-0.
As of November 2021, the Australian team has played 834 test matches in which they won 394 tests, lost 226 matches, 212 matches were drawn, and 2 tied. On the other hand, Pakistan has played 439 test matches in which they got the victory in 143 matches, lost 134, 162 matches were drawn. Pakistan and Australia have faced each other in 66 test matches till November 2021 in which Australia won 33 matches and Pakistan got the victory in 15 matches only. These numbers show that Australia has ruled over Pakistan in test competitions but playing against Pakistan at their home will not be easy for Australians as Australia will go to Pakistan after 24 years.
