Cricket West Indies (CWI), the governing body of cricket in the West Indies, confirmed that they have scheduled to tour Pakistan for a 3 ODI series in June 2022. The first match of Pakistan vs West Indies ODI series 2022 will be held at Multan Cricket Stadium on 8 June 2022. The second match and the third match of the series will be fought at the same venue, i.e Multan Cricket Stadium on 10 June and 12 June 2022.
Currently, Kieron Pollard is the ODI and T20 captain of the West Indies and most probably, they will come to Pakistan under the leadership of Pollard. On the other hand, Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan team in the ODI series. Presently, Babar Azam is the number 1 batsman in the ICC ODI player ranking, on the other hand, Pollard is not even in the list of top 20.
Currently, Pakistan is standing at the number 6 position in the ICC men’s ODI team ranking and West Indies is at number 8 position. There is not much difference in their ranking, only two positions, but playing against Pakistan in their homeland will not be an easy task for the Windies.
Both the teams faced each other for the first time in June 1975. Since 1975, West Indies has faced Pakistan in One Day International on 134 occasions in which West Indies lead by winning 71 matches. Pakistan has won only 60 matches against West Indies in ODI. Overall, Windies has played 831 One Day International matches in which they won 405 matches and lost 386 matches with 10 matches tied and 30 matches without any outcome with the winning percentage of 51.1%.
West Indies has players like Chris Gayle who holds the record of highest matches, runs, centuries, individual score, highest partnership for West Indies, on the other hand, Pakistan is packed with players like Babar Azam, and bowlers like Shaheen Afridi. So, it will be interesting to watch how West Indies will perform and tackle Pakistani conditions in the 3 ODI series 2022.
