Sri Lanka wins the 1st test match against Pakistan  - The 1st test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was played in the Galle international stadium. After winning the toss the visiting team captain decided to bat first and make use of the good batting conditions.

On the 1st day of the game the visitors got a bad start to the game. They lost 3 quick wickets. The first 3 wickets fell at the score of 56. This was not a good sign for a team playing in the sub-continent where the batting conditions are always good. Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haqq came in as the saviour for the team. They together pulled the batting together and managed to take their team to a score of 156. At this point of the game the Pakistani skipper lost his wicket after scoring 31 runs. The day ended for the visitors at a score of 261/4. At the end of the day Younis Khan was at 133 runs and Asad Shafiq was batting at 55.

On the 2nd day of the match the Younis khan show continued and he kept on piling runs for his team. Shafiq scored 75 runs and lost his wicket at 293/5. Later Sarfaraz Ahmed partnered with Younis khan to take the team score to 359 when Khan after scoring 177 runs lost his wicket. Abdur Rehman managed to score 50 runs and they together took their team to a score of 451 runs. Dilruwan Perera took 5 wickets in the innings. The home side came into bat and managed to score 99 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Kumar Sangakkara and Kaushal Silva were at crease at the end of the 2nd day.

On the 3rd day of the match the Sri Lankans managed to score 174 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Silva lost his wicket after scoring 64 runs lost his wicket. The game was interrupted due to rain and started off pretty late after the lunch break. As the game resumed the home side made their position even stronger in the match. They finished the day at 252/2 as the rain interrupted once again. Kumar Sangakkara was at 102 and Mahaela Jayawardene at 55 runs on the end of the day.

On the 4th day of the match the Sri Lankans batted the day out and took themselves in a good position. They scored 533 runs in the 1st innings. Kumar Sangakkara managed to score 221 runs and Angelo Mathews managed to score 91 runs. Saeed Ajmal took 5 wickets in the innings for Pakistan. The visitors were put into bat for the 2nd innings and in just overs they lost their 1st wicket of the 2nd innings and ended the day at 4/1.

The last day of the match needed a great focused batting from the visitors but the top order failed yet again. At lunch the team was at 66/4. The state even worsens for the visitors as at tea the team was at 153/8. The last 2 wickets fell just after tea and the visitors ended their 2nd innings at 180 setting a target of 99 runs. Rangana Herath took 6 wickets in the innings to set his team for a victory in the first match of the series. The Sri Lankans won the match comfortably by 7 wickets. Herath was elected as the man of the match and the home side now leads the 2 match series by 1-0.
