The cricket governing authority of Afghanistan has announced plans to welcome the Netherlands cricket team to play 3 ODI matches bilateral series in the month of January 2022. This will be the first bilateral series for Afghanistan when they host and play a bilateral series in Qatar. Afghanistan vs Netherlands ODI series 2022 will commence with the first ODI on 21 January 2022, the second and third ODI will be held on 23, and 25 January 2022. All the matches between the two teams will be played at the same stadium i.e, West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Doha.
Pieter Seelaar is the current leader of the Netherlands cricket team and most probably the Netherlands will visit Afghanistan under his captaincy. On the other hand, Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead Afghanistan.
The series will be an integral component of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, so it will be a crucial series for both teams for the qualification of ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2023. Afghanistan has already won a 3 ODI series against Ireland by 3-0 in the month of January 2021 holding 30 points in the ICC Super League.
Afghanistan is a full member of the International Cricket Council while the Netherlands is the Associate member with ODI status. Both the teams have faced each other in 6 ODI matches in which Afghanistan won 4 and Netherlands got the victory in 2 matches. Currently, Afghanistan is at the number 10th position in the ICC Men’s ODI team ranking whereas the Netherlands is at 11th position.
As of December 2021, Afghanistan has played 129 ODI matches in which they got the victory in 62 matches, lost 63 ODIs, with 1 match tied and 3 ODIs without any result. On the other hand, the Netherlands has taken part in 85 ODI matches in which they triumphed in 34 matches, lost 47, and 1 match tied with 3 without any outcomes. It would be interesting to watch when Afghanistan will meet the Netherlands and play bilateral series for the first time after Talibani’s attack in Afghanistan.
