West Indian bowlers help the team to level the T20
series - The second Twenty 20 International of the T20 series
between West Indies and New Zealand was played at Windsor Park. The
Kiwis after winning the toss put the host team into bat. The West Indies
lost the wicket of Dwayne Smith in the third over leaving the team to a
score of 10/1. Lendl Simmons and Andre Fletcher batted the team out of
danger. Both the players had a 66 run partnership. The 2nd wicket fell
in the form of Simmons at the score of 76 in the 11th over. The middle
order contributed to the run making cause. The top scorer for the team
was Fletcher who scored 62 runs in just 49 balls. His innings included 3
6’s and 3 4’s. The home team after the end of 20 overs scored 165 runs.
Trent Boult was the best bowler for the visiting side taking 2 wickets
while giving away only 22
runs.
The
visitors while chasing score of 166 lost the first wicket in the 2nd
over of the innings. Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum tried to take
the ship ahead but in the 6th over of the game McCullum lost his wicket.
Later Ross Taylor Joined in to take his team in the correct direction.
But the West Indian bowlers were determined of a victory. The bowlers
created some great pressure on the visitors with some disciplined
bowling. The pressure created by the bowlers paid off resulting into
wickets. The visitors were bowled out for 126 runs. Sunil Narine was the
star bowler for the team as in his 4 overs he managed to take 2 wickets
and giveaway only 19 runs. Andre Fletcher was awarded the man of the
match award for his outstanding batting performance. With this win the
series was leveled by West Indies and hence the T20 cup was shared
between the two teams.
