The recently concluded South Africa versus England Test series 2019-2020 marks a glorious innings in England team’s history of Test cricket played overseas. The Test series commenced on December 26, 2019 and concluded on January 28, 2020. It was a 4-match series that were played in some of the most elite stadiums of South Africa, including SuperSport Park, Newlands Cricket Ground, St. George’s Park and Wanderers Stadium. The 3-1 series commenced with South Africa winning the maiden match on December 26 at SuperSport Park. But the host team was soon smashed by the away team which left the fans in awe by conjuring a hat trick win in all the other 3 matches.
The English team was led by Joe Root while Faf du Plessis was the skipper of the South African team. The 3-1 series win is definitely special for the English team as they were passing through a rocky phase of late. In fact, Root has dubbed their recent triumph against South Africa as something “very special” since they had to battle several adversities all through ever since the start of the series. The English team was hit by illness right at the start of the series which was a major factor behind the team losing out to the host team in the maiden match.
Then of course, the English team had to battle with multiple injuries which left them high and dry without their #1 spinner Jack Leach, fast bowlers James Anderson and Jofra Archer and of course Rory Burns, their star batsman. But despite the adversities, the team has shown excellent spirit and was quick to turn the game in their favor right from the second match. Root is extremely proud of his young boys who have done a fantastic job in sealing the victory for England this time. Ben Stokes has been declared as the match of the series.
