Duminy’s Master Stroke Guide Africans To Their First Victory In WT20
South Africa after having lost their opening match to Sri Lanka faced the Kiwis in Chittagong in their second group match. Kiwis after winning their first match looked to ride on the momentum as after winning the toss they elected to field first. The Africans had a slow start as they only managed to score 39 in first six overs losing 2 wickets. Later two experienced players stitched together a marvellous innings to ensure that the team reaches a respectable total. Hashim Amla and JP Duminy together took the team to a score of 170 in 20 overs. Amla acted as an anchor with his 41 runs innings while Duminy scored 86 of just 43 balls. Southee and Anderson were the two bowlers who were able to pick 2 wickets each.
The Kiwis on the other hand had a good start to their innings with both the openers chipping in with runs. Williamson one of the openers was able to score a half century in 35 balls. His innings laid the foundation for the player like Taylor to launch for 37 balls 62. But the efforts of these players went in vain as the middle order failed to contribute for the cause and at the end the kiwis fell short by just 2 runs and eventually the African managed to get the much needed points. JP Duminy was awarded the man of the match award for his brilliant batting display.
