The ICC associate nation Hong Kong recently toured Australia to play an ODI series. The team played against Papua New Guinea. This series include 2 ODI matches against each other. Both the matches were played in the Toy Ireland Stadium in Townsville city of Australia.
The 1st match saw the Hong Kong winning the toss and electing to bat first. The decision of batting first was not good as they lost their openers pretty early. They were restricted to 8/2 in just 3 overs of the game. Later Anshuman Rath and Jamie Atkinson together built a partnership they took the team to a score of 55 runs where Anshuman lost his wicket after scoring 22 runs. Later the middle order Aizaz Khan later joined Atkinson to take the team to a greater position as the ship of team was sinking and thus they took the team out. Haseeb Amjad too scored 35 runs to take his team to a total of 202.
The Papua New Guinea team had a better score in the start when compared to Hong Kong. The team reached a total of 66/3 but later got hiccups as some of the team lost wickets pretty easily. Lega Siaka score 31 runs and was accompanied by Vani Morea who scored 54 runs. later Charles Amini too played a huge role in the game scoring 61 runs thus helping the team to cross the required target quite comfortably thus winning the 1st match in the series.
The 2nd ODI of the series once again saw Hong Kong winning the toss and deciding to bat first. This time around the team got off to a better start when compared to the last match. Opener Waqas Barkat and Anshuman Rath this time around took the score to 62 runs where Barkat lost his wicket after scoring 24 runs. Jamie Atkinson joined Rath and took the wagon forward. Hong Kong reached a score of 115 runs when Anshuman lost his wickets after scoring 55 runs. Atkinson scored 22 runs before he lost his wicket in the 28th over of the game. Later Babar Hayat and Haseeb Amjad scored most of the runs for the team. They scored 55 and 42 runs respectively taking the team to a total of 261 runs in the 1st innings. Norman Vanua took 4 wickets in the match for Papua New Guinea.
During the chase of 262 the team lost both the openers early. This was a bad start when such a score was required to be chased. Lega Siaka and Geraint Jones together took the team forward with a stable partnership. Jones scored 25 runs but Vani Morea joined Siaka and scored 65 runs. Siaka scored 109 runs and thus took the team cross the required target with 4 balls in hand. With this team completed their series win against Hong Kong winning both their matched quite comfortably.
