West Indies vs New Zealand Test Series 2014 Schedule


New Zealand complete a test series win in the tour of West Indies tour of 2014 - The New Zealand cricket team started their tour of West Indies playing a three test match series. In the recent years the home team didn’t have a good result in the test arena. This was the time when they could have silenced the critics with some mature cricket. The first match of the series was played in the Sabina Park, Jamaica. It was a game of cricket which involved huge ups and downs in the game. The roller coaster ride started off with New Zealand batting first and scoring 508 runs in the first innings of the match. Kane Williamson was the top scorer in this innings for the visitors as he scored 113 and Jimmy Neesham too scored 107 runs. The bowling from the home side was ineffective as they only managed to take 7 wickets. Sulieman Benn and Shane Shillingford managed to take 3 wickets each.

The home side collapsed batting in the first innings. They managed to score only 262 runs. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the only batsman who impressed with an undefeated 84 run innings. Tim Southee and Mark Craig managed to take 4 wickets each. With this the visitors had a good lead and they extended the lead in the 2nd innings as they scored 156 runs. Tom Latham was the top scorer scoring 73 runs for the team. Jerome Taylor was the top wicket taker in the innings as he took 3 wickets. The home side was set a target of 403 runs. New Zealand had half of the day 4 and full day 5 to take West Indies 10 wickets but they managed to bowl the West Indies in the day 4. The home side was bowled out at 216. No player managed to impress with the bat. Mark Craig took 4 wickets in the innings. The visitors led the series 1-0.

The second test saw the home side fight back. The visitors were bowled out on the 1st day for just 221 runs. Tom Latham was the top scorer for the visitors as he scored 82 runs. Jerome Taylor managed to take 4 wickets. The home side had a great 1st innings thanks to some great batting from Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo. Both the players managed to score centuries. The home side managed to score 460 runs taking a good lead in the match. Ish Sodhi took 4 wickets in the innings. The visitors were put on the back foot after a great batting display by the home side. The visitors tried to fight back but they kept losing wickets. Mark Craig and BJ Watling managed to score most of the runs in the innings and took their team to a 2nd innings score of 331. Kemar Roach was the top wicket taker as he took 4 wickets. The home side was set a target of 93 runs which was achieved easily by the home side and thus West Indies levelled the series to 1-1 with a 10 wicket victory in the 2nd test.

The third and the final test match of the series saw New Zealand being bowled out in the very first day of the test match. The visitors scored only 293 runs in the first innings. Jimmy Neesham was the top scorer for his side scoring 78 runs. Sulieman Benn took 5 wickets in the innings to help the cause of bowling the team out early. The home side in their 1st innings with some help from the top order batsmen managed to score 317 runs. Kraigg Brathwaite was the top scorer for the team scoring 68 runs. Neil Wagner managed to take 4 wickets. The visitors in the second innings made a great comeback thanks to the century run innings from Kane Williamson. He managed to score 161 runs in the innings. The visitors managed to score 331 runs losing only 7 wickets. Kemar Roach managed to take 4 wickets in the innings. The home side was required to manage and pass a day’s play to draw the match and the series but they failed to survive the whole day. The whole team was bowled out at a score of 254 runs. The target of 308runs looked achievable but the home team lost many wickets in the start of the innings. Jason Holder was the top scorer in the innings scoring 52 runs while Tim Southee was the best bowler for New Zealand. With this win the visitors won the series 2-1. Kane Williamson was the top scorer in the series while Kemar Roach was the highest wicket taker in the series. Williamson was named as the man of the series.
