After a devastating ODI series the Bangladesh team looked for some revenge in the test series against West Indies. This series had 2 matches to be played and winning the first 1 made sure that the series is not lost. This series was sponsored by Dhaka Bank was telecasted live in the Ten Sports network in the sub-continent.
The
first Test match
was played in St Vincent cricket ground. In the first match the Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first. It was a decision which they regretted later as the opening partnership of Chris Gayle and Kraigg Brathwaite managed to score a good amount of runs. The opening pair scored 116 runs giving the team a good start. Chris Gayle after scoring 64 runs was the first fall. Later Darren Bravo joined Brathwaite and continued to score at a good rate. The 1st innings of the game saw some fine display of batting and after 2 days of batting West Indies scored 484 runs. Brathwaite scored 212 runs while Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 85 runs. Darren Bravo too played an important innings of 62 runs. Taijul Islam was the top bowler as he took 5 wickets in the 1st innings.
After bowling for 180 overs the Bangladesh team got the chance of batting but were unable to last a whole day. They were bowled out in the 3rd day itself at a score of 182 runs. Mominul Haque was the top scorer who scored 51 runs while Mushfiqur Rahim played an unbeaten inning of 48 runs. Sulieman Benn was the top bowler as he took 5 wickets in the innings. Bangladesh after scoring only 182 in the 1st innings was forced to follow on. This time around the visitors batted to their strength and scored some good runs. Tamim Iqbal led the batting scoring 53 runs. The biggest partnership came in the middle order as Mahmudullah scored 66 runs while Mushfiqur Rahim scored 116 runs to take their team past the threat of an innings defeat. The lower middle order fell yet again as at the start of the 5th day of the match the visitors lost their entire wicket at a score of 314. The West Indies team required scoring 13 runs to win the match and it was done quite easily. With this win the West Indies team now led the 2 match series by 1-0.
The
2nd match
of the series was played in St Lucia. Bangladesh yet again won the toss and decided to field first. The West Indian openers started off well as they scored 143 runs for the 1st wicket. Kraigg Brathwaite and Leon Johnson scored 63 and 66 runs respectively. Later Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul kept on scoring runs for the team. They scored 46 and 84 runs respectively. The game changes its hands in the 2nd day when Bangladesh took few quick wickets. It seemed that the 1st innings would end at a score of 300 but Jerome Taylor came at the end to score 40 important runs. The home side scored 380 in the 1st innings with Al-Amin Hossain was the top wicket taker for the visitors as he took 3 wickets. The Bangladesh batting struggled yet again as they were bowled out in the 1st innings for a mere 161 runs. Tamim Iqbal scored 48 runs while Mahmudullah was the top scorer for Bangladesh as he scored 53 runs. Kemar Roach was the top bowler for the home side as he took 5 wickets in the innings.
The home team extended their lead in the 2nd innings with some brilliant batting. Kraigg Brathwaite scored 45 runs while Leon Johnson scored 41 runs. Later Shivnarine Chanderpaul played an innings of 101 runs helped on well by Kermaine Blackwood who scored 66 runs. Bangladesh had a target of 489 runs which was a tough task. They needed to bat well to end this match as a draw. The visitors yet again faulted while batting. Tamim Iqbal scored 64 runs while Mominul Haque scored 56 runs in the innings. Sulieman Benn runs through the remaining team as he took 5 wickets. The Bangladesh team was bowled out at 192 runs to lose the match by 296 runs.
The West Indies team was able to complete a white wash in the series and thus won the Dhaka Bank test series 2-0. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was named as the man of the series for his lovely bating performance.
