After winning the
only T20 international in their tour of Pakistan the Australians were looking for a good performance in the ODIs. It was a 3 match ODI series that was played between these two teams in this tour. The home side was a weak side in this series as batting has been their major concern in all format of the game. It was the Haier cup that the both teams were fighting for in this series. The series was telecasted live on ten sports network in the sub-continent.
The 1st match was being played in the famous stadium of Sharjah. The match was played on 7th of October in which after winning the toss the visitors decided to bat first. David Warner continued from where he left in the last match and scored 43 runs in the match. Steven Smith scored 101 runs which helped his team to reach the score of 255 in the first innings. Shahid Afridi took 3 wickets in the game and was the most successful home bowler. The Pakistan team once again faced the same old problem of losing their batsmen cheaply in the match as they lost all their men at a score of 162 only. Mitchell Johnson took 3 wickets in the match.
The second match of the tournament was played in Dubai. This was a must win match for the home side and they started off well as the openers Ahmed Shehzad and Sarfraz Ahmed scored 61 and 65 runs respectively. The match was controlled by the home side well but the team lost too many wickets in the last 25 overs and were able to score only 215 runs. Mitchell Johnson again took 3 wickets in the match. The Australians had trouble in chasing as the tight bowling by Pakistan made sure that the wickets kept falling. Glenn Maxwell was the hero for Australia with the bat as he scored 76 runs which ensured that the Australians win the match to seal the series.
The third and the final ODI of the series was much more about a matter of Pride for the home team. They were looking to win it for making sure that the team wins this one to gain some respect. Batting first the Australians scored 231 runs. Steven Smith scores 77 runs while David Warner scored 56 runs in the match. These two teams were responsible for scoring all the runs for their team. Sohail Tanvir took 3 wickets in the match. The Pakistan team batted their heart out as Asad Shafiq scored 50 runs in the match. The ending of the match was an exciting one as the last ball of the match saw the fall of the final wicket of Pakistan when they needed only 2 runs to win thus losing the match by 1 run. Steven Smith was named as the man of the series.
