One of the most esteemed of the international ODI tournaments, Asia Cup was launched in the year 1983 with the foundation of Asian Cricket Council. It was slated to be played between ACC member countries every couple of years. Till date 16 editions have been played with the maiden one in 1984 and the last one in 2023. In between, the 1993 session had to be nullified given strenuous relations between Pakistan & India. In 2008, it was announced that championship would be played biennially.

Following is the Asia Cup cricket winners list. Total 16 times teams have played for asia cup together. India have won maximum 8 times, Sri Lanka have won asia cup 6 times and Pakistan have won asia cup tournament 2 times. Sri Lanka have played maximum 13 asia cup finals while India have played Asia cup final match 11 times. Bangladesh have never won any asia cup till date but they have played final 3 times. Pakistan and India have never played Asia cup final together in the history.

No other countries have won Asia cup apart from India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Bangladesh have reached Asia cup final 3 times but they lost in all occasion.

Here is a brief overview on all the editions played in Asia Cup.
Asia Cup 1984
The inaugural edition of Asia Cup was held in 1984 between India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan. Three matches were played where India won 2 matches and came up with the maiden Asia Cup trophy. All the matches were played at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, Sharjah. The edition followed a round-robin format. Surinder Khanna was the Player of the Series and he was also the player with most runs. Ravi Shastri was the highest wicket taker in the inaugural Asia Cup edition. The championship ran from April 6 to April 13.
Asia Cup 1986
The second edition was held at Sri Lanka. India did not participate in the championship given strained relation with the host nation. The second participant nation was Pakistan and Bangladesh was also included in the tournament. There were 3 group matches in round robin format & one final. It started on March 30 & finalized on April 6.

Asia Cup 1988
The 3rd edition of the tournament was hosted by Bangladesh and had 4 participants- India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan & Bangladesh. The championship started on 27th October & ran till 4th November. 7 matches were played all total and India was the winner.

The 7th edition of the tournament was hosted at Bangladesh for the 2nd time and the participant teams were Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. It was scheduled from May 29 to June 7. All total 7 matches were played in the round robin format. This edition marked the first Asia Cup win for Pakistan and was also the first edition where India could not qualify to the final.

Asia Cup 2004
The 8th edition was hosted by Sri Lanka 4 years post the previous season. The edition is special in the history of Asian Cup as it came with a changed format & the tournament was divided into 3 stages- Group Stage, Round robin Super Fours & the finale. Two new teams, Hong Kong & UAE, were introduced along with 4 existing participants. Group stage was further divided into 2 parts with 3 teams in each. Group A had Pakistan, Bangladesh & Hong Kong while Group B had Sri Lanka, UAE & India. The new teams lost out in the first stage. All total 13 matches were played from July 16 to August 1.

Group A comprised of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & UAE. Group B had Pakistan, Hong Kong and India. India & Sri Lanka topped in their respective groups. All total 13 matches were played.

The 11th edition was hosted by the Bangladesh and it ran from March 11 to March 22. The 2012 Asia Cup again had the 4 test playing countries as participants- India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Pakistan. All total 7 matches were played where Pakistan & Bangladesh topped on group stages. It was the first time for Bangladesh to enter the final of an Asia Cup edition.

The edition marked the second Asia Cup win for Pakistan.
Asia Cup 2014
The 12th edition of the tournament was once again hosted by Bangladesh, in Dhaka & Fatullah. It started on February 25 and ran till March 8. All total 11 matches were played between 5 participants. There were the 4 test playing countries as participants- India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Pakistan – along with ICC Associate member country Afghanistan. This edition marked the debut of Afghanistan in Asia Cup.

Asia Cup 2016
Asia Cup 2016 was held in Bangladesh from 24th February to 6th March. Total 5 teams participated in the tournament. India and Bangladesh reached the finals of Asia cup where India won the match by 8 wickets and lifted the trophy. Shikhar Dhawan got man of the match award in the final match where as Sabbir Rahman from Bangladesh was declared as player of the series. All the matches of this series was played at single venue i.e. Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium.
Sabbir Rahman from Bangladesh scored most runs (176 runs) while Al-Amin Hossain took maximum wickets (11 wickets) in that tournament. Asia cup 2016 was played in T20 format and the highest individual score in that tournament was 83 made by Rohit Sharma (India).
It marked the 6th Asia Cup win for team India.
Asia Cup 2018
Asia Cup 2018 was the 14th edition of Asia Cup and was held in United Arab Emirates from 15 September to 28 September. Total 6 teams participated in the tournament. Hong Kong (debut) was introduced as 6th team in the tournament. India and Bangladesh once again reached the finals of Asia cup where India won the match by 3 wickets and lifted the trophy. Liton Das got man of the match award in the final match where as Shikhar Dhawan was declared as player of the series. All the matches of this series was played at two venue in UAE, Sheikh Zayed and Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Shikhar Dhawan scored
most runs (342 runs) while Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) took
maximum wickets (10 wickets) in that tournament. Asia cup 2018 was played in ODI format and the
highest individual score in that tournament was 144 runs made by Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh).
