The 26th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was played between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers at the Metricon Stadium on 3 Jan 2021. Sydney won the toss and invited the opposition to set the target at the scoreboard. Harry Nielsen & Harry Conway were selected as the X-factor subs for the Strikers and Hayden Kerr & Gurinder Sandhu for the Sixers. Phil Salt and Matt Renshaw were sent to open the inning for Adelaide. Ben Dwarshuis got the new ball in hand.
It was not a great start for Adelaide as they lost their first 2 wickets very early at the score of 7 runs only. It was a great bowling effort by bowlers in the first two overs. Then a partnership of 64 runs between Alex Carey and Jonathan Wells was pretty good but it was broken by an excellent bowling attack of Sydney Sixers. After the dismissal of Carey, Jake Weatherald came to join Jonathan and he gave nice support to Wells. Both batsmen played well under pressure and added a total of 150 runs to the scoreboard for their team. The Sixers needed 151 runs to win the match from 120 balls.
Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards were on the crease to chase the target. Daniel Worrall got the new ball. Both the openers started nicely and had made 47 runs without any loss at the end of the first powerplay. Rashid Khan was brought into the attack and got a much-needed breakthrough for ADS. Jack Edwards was dismissed in the 5th over of the match. James Vince came out to join Philippe. After the dismissal of Philippe, a crucial partnership of 71 runs between Vince and Silk helped them to achieve the target easily. Strikers won the 26th BBL match by 7 wickets. Philippe, Vince, and Silk performed well with the bat to chase. Rashid Khan created some trouble for Strikers but could not stop them.
Josh Philippe was the Player of the Match for his brilliant match-winning inning of 41 runs from 24 balls.
