The 30th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League 2020-21 was played between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium in Perth on 6 Jan 2021. Sydney Sixers won the toss and invited Perth Scorchers to bat first. Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone came on the crease to open. Jackson Bird got the new ball to attack.
It was a nice start for Sydney as they got the first wicket in the 4th over at the score of only 23 runs. Steeve O’Keefe dismissed Livingstone and then Colin Munro came to join Jason Roy. Perth made 26 runs at the loss of 1 wicket at the end of the first mandatory power play. Colin Munro was looking dangerous as he completed his fifty from just 33 balls but he was sent back by Pope on the very next ball. Mitchell Marsh who came to bat at the number 5 position made unbeaten 57 runs from just 27 balls. Finally, Scorchers were successfully made a defending total of 183 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Munro and Marsh were the top scorers for Perth.
Sydney needed 184 runs to win the match from 120 balls. Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards came to chase the target. The new ball was given to Richardson to open the attack. Sydney needed a good start but Scorchers were ready to put pressure on the opposition. Philippe was dismissed by Behrendorff at a total of 9 runs only. James Vince who came after the dismissal of Philippe was also sent back in the next over. No batsmen except Jack Edwards could stay longer on the crease and the entire team was bowled out at only 97 runs in 16.4 overs. Jack Edwards tried hard to save the match. He made 44 runs from 38 balls.
Scorchers won the match by 86 runs and Mitchell Marsh was the Player of the Match. Richardson took 3 wickets and Andrew Tye took 4 wickets for his team in the match.
