The 33rd T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was played between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades at Adelaide Oval on 8 January 2021. The Strikers won the toss and they decided to bat first. Matt Renshaw and Phil Salt were sent to open the bat. Imad Wasim got the new ball to attack.
Both the openers gave a decent start and had successfully made 61 runs at the end of the 7th over. Melbourne wanted to break the partnership so the captain brought Jack Prestwidge into the attack. The Strikers lost their first wicket with the entry of Prestwidge. Renshaw was sent back by Prestwidge and he made 30 runs. Then Alex Carey came to join Salt and made quick 42 runs from just 25 balls. Phil Salt, Renshaw, and Carey played well, and finally, the score of the team reached 177 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. Phil Salt contributed valuable 59 runs from 42 balls. Peter Hatzoglou was the most successful bowler for Melbourne and took 3 crucial wickets in the match. Melbourne Renegades needed 178 runs from 120 balls.
Mackenzie Harvey and Aaron Finch came to chase the target. Harry Conway got the new ball in hand to attack. Mackenzie and Finch tried to start well but both the openers had been sent back at a total of 44 runs. Sam Harper who came at number 3 couldn’t do well and was dismissed by Rashid Khan. Renegades had come under pressure after the loss of their 3 top-order batsmen at a score of 68 runs. Then, Nabi and Jake were on the crease and tried hard to save the match. Finally, a superb partnership between Nabi and Jake destroyed the Strikers bowling attack and took over the match.
Melbourne Renegades won the match by 6 wickets with one ball left. Nabi played a tremendous match-winning inning of 71 runs for his team. Mohammad Nabi was the Man of the Match for his brilliant performance with the bat.
