Canterbury rise above the Northern Districts challenge - The 5th match of the Georgie Pie Super Smash Series was played between the Northern Districts and the Canterbury. The Defending champions had already won 2 of their encounters in the current tournament and hence it has gain the status of being the team to beat. In this match the Northern Districts decided to bat first after winning the toss.

The openers yet again gave the team a good start as the openers provided a start scoring 86 runs in 12 overs. The first wicket to fall was of Anton Devcich who scored only 24 runs before losing his wicket. The good start from the openers was wasted as the middle order collapsed without changing the scoreboard much. From 86/0 the team was reduced to 115/3. The team enjoyed a small partnership between Daniel Flynn and Daryl Mitchell but the partnership was soon broken and team was in trouble once again. Mitchell scored 14 runs while Flynn played a great role in taking their team to a score of 86.  Andrew Ellis played a great role in restricting the Northern Districts at such a low score as he took 4 important wickets.

Canterbury after some great bowling performance had all the chance of winning the match. The batsmen were required to bat sensibly in order to gain victory in the match. He top order laid the perfect foundation for the victory as the top 3 batsmen took their team to a score of 112/2. Aiden Blizzard was the man who was the architect of this win as he scored 9 unbeaten runs to make sure that his team crossed the required run mark in 18 overs. Thus Canterbury registered a win against Northern Districts to earn 4 points from this match. The start of the 2nd week of the tournament was not good for the defending champions but it is a long tournament to go.
