Canterbury wins a low scoring match against Central Districts - The 4th match of the Georgie Pie Super Smash series was played between the Canterbury and the Central Districts. This was the last match to be played in the 1st week of the tournament. It was also the 1st match for both the teams in the tournament of 2014/15.

After winning the toss it was the Central Districts who decided to bat first. Their decision of batting first was questioned by the bowlers of Canterbury as the batsmen were unable to score some good amount of runs up early. George Worker was the first wicket to fall for the Districts as he scored only 12 runs and was bowled by Logan van Beek, soon after Ben Smith too was run out due to some great fielding display by the team. Jamie How and Kieran Noema-Barnett together brought back their team on the right track. They together took their team to a score of 58 runs in 10 overs. The batting team was starting to look settled when the Canterbury struck once again taking the wicket of Noema-Barnett. He lost his wicket after scoring 17 runs. This wicket opened all gates for the fielding team and they took some quick wickets restricting the team to a score of 69/6. Ben Wheeler and Adam Milne later scored 16 runs each to take their team to a score of 114 runs in 20 overs. Todd Astle was the best bowler for the Canterbury as he took 2 wickets giving away only 10 runs.

It was an easy task for Canterbury to chase a low total but the top order batsmen failed to score runs for his team. They scored 38 runs losing 4 wickets in the first 7 overs. It seemed that the match was turning over when Brendon Diamanti and Andrew Ellis batted together making sure that their team didn’t lose any more wickets. This approach was successful as they scored 36 and 39 runs respectively to guide their team home in 18.4 overs. With this the Canterbury started their tournament with a win and 4 important points.
