As per ICC Future Tour Program, Afghanistan will travel to Bangladesh in July 2023 in order to play 2 T20 matches bilateral series with Bangladesh. Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided and confirmed the dates and venues of all the 2 T20 matches. The Bangladesh vs Afghanistan T20 series 2023 will comprise 2 T20Is which will commence with the 1st T20I on 14 July 2023 and will conclude with the 2nd T20I on 16 July 2023. Both the matches of Ban vs Afg T20 series 2023 will be played at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet.
Most probably, Afghanistan will come to Bangladesh under the captaincy of Rashid Khan along with Jonathan Trott as a head coach whereas Shakib Al Hasan will take command of the Bangladesh T20 squad. Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan, both are very experienced T20 players and are skilled enough to perform with both bat and ball. Rashid Khan has appeared in 74 T20 matches where he has added 328 runs and taken 122 wickets. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan has played 115 T20Is where he has struck 2,345 runs and taken 136 wickets. In terms of ICC ranking, Bangladesh is at the number 9th position whereas Afghanistan is holding the 10th position. Based on the ICC ranking and their current performance in T20I, both teams are looking the same.
Afghanistan visited Bangladesh last time in 2022 where both the nations played 2 T20Is series in the month of February-March. Both the T20Is were held in Dhaka where Bangladesh won the first T20 by 61 runs whereas Afghanistan achieved the victory in the 2nd T20I by 8 wickets. Litton Das became the most run maker and Litton Fazalhaq Farooqi emerged as the most wicket-taker in that T20 series.
In terms of head-to-head in T20 international, Bangladesh has faced Afghanistan in 9 T20 matches where Afghanistan ruled out Bangladesh by winning 6 matches out of 9 and Bangladesh could achieve victory in 3 matches only. Overall, as of June 2023, Afghanistan has appeared in 113 T20Is where they came out victorious in 72 matches and lost only 40 matches. On the other hand, Bangladesh has played 150 T20Is where they faced defeat in 93 matches and could win only 54 matches. These figures show that Afghanistan has a wonderful winning record in comparison to Bangladesh in the T20 internationals.
