Having been established in 2022, the Joburg Super Kings are a cricket team who will compete in the very first campaign of the South Africa T20 league in 2023. The Joburg Super Kings is dedicated to Johannesburg and represents the city’s true spirit for T20 cricket. The proprietors of the IPL's Chennai Super Kings, Chennai Super Kings Sports Limited, have chosen Joburg Super Kings as the title of their club for the SA20 T20 League.
Faf Du Plessis, a former member of the CSK, has been picked by the Joburg Super Kings as one of their five direct signings and has been given the position of team captain. Stephen Fleming will play the role of head coach, and Eric Simons & Albie Morkel will assist him. Russell Radhakrishnan has been nominated as the manager of the Joburg Super Kings whereas Tommy Simsek will handle the responsibility of Physio and Gregory King is included as a trainer.
The franchise has included West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd, England’s Lewis Gregory, and Harry Brook in their playing roster. From the South African side, all-rounder Gerald Coetzee, Leus du Plooy, Nandre Burger, and Caleb Seleka have been picked. In the field of bowling, the club has chosen Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana, West Indies’s Alzarri Joseph, and South African Lizaad Williams & Caleb Seleka.
Maheesh Theekshana also participates for Chennai Super Kings in IPL in India and Jaffna Kings in domestic T20 leagues in Sri Lanka. Harry Brook also represents Hobart Hurricanes and Lahore Qalandars. George Garton has played for Adelaide Strikers and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Lewis Gregory has contributed to several clubs like Rangpur Rangers, Brisbane Heat, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Trent Rockets, and Karachi Kings.
So, this is the inaugural edition of the SA T20 League and as per cricket experts, this league would play a crucial role in enhancing South African cricket.
