Afghanistan cricket board has confirmed their visit for the T20I series between both teams in the month of August 2022. The series will be an important part of Ireland Men's preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in October. The Ireland vs Afghanistan T20 series 2022 will begin with the first T20I on 9th august 2022 at Stormont, then the second T20I will be played on 11th August, 3,4 and 5 T20Is will be held on 12, 15, and 17 August 2022. There has been a great rivalry between both the teams in the cricketing world and their fans will once again enjoy the fun of cricket between both teams in the coming August of this year. The Afghanistan cricket board had planned to visit Ireland for a series consisting of a single Test and three One Day Internationals; however, the series was postponed owing to both sides' desire to improve their T20 cricket preparation ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in October.
Afghanistan will visit Ireland under the captaincy of Mohammad Nabi with Lance Klusener as a head coach whereas Ireland will play under the leadership of Andrew Balbirnie. The ICC T20 Team ranking of the Afghanistan cricket team is 9 while Ireland is listed at number 15th position.
Afghanistan last met Ireland in a T20I series in March 2020 at Greater Noida, India where Afghanistan won the 3 T0I matches series by the margin of 2-1.
