Ireland and West Indies cricket governing bodies have declared that the Irish cricket team will visit West Indies to play 3 One Day International matches bilateral series between Ireland and West Indies in the month of January 2022. The Ireland vs West Indies ODI series 2022 will be an integral part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2023. Previously, the Ireland cricket team traveled to the West Indies in 2020. The venue for the 3 ODI matches is kept the same i.e Sabina Park, Jamaica. The ODI series will commence with the first match that will be held at Sabina Park, Jamaica on 8 January 2022, the second and third matches will be played on 13 and 16 January 2022.
The Ireland cricket team will travel to the West Indies under the leadership of Andrew Balbirnie, a right-handed batsman of Ireland, and the head coach Graham Ford. On the other hand, Kieron Pollard will play the role of captain for the West Indies. Currently, West Indies is at the 8th position whereas Ireland stands at 12th position in the ICC ODI team ranking.
Ireland lacks experience and talent in comparison to Windies but they have got a great chance to prove themselves by their game. As of December 2021, Ireland has played 171 ODI matches in which they won 71, lost 88, 3 ties, and 9 without any outcomes. On the other hand, West Indies has played 831 ODI matches out of which they won 405, lost 386, 10 ties with 30 no results. This shows a large gap between both teams in terms of experience. In terms of head to head in ODI, Ireland has faced West Indies in the One Day International matches on the 12 occasions where they could get a single victory and lost 10 ODIs. This number shows that West Indies has often dominated Ireland in ODI and it is not going to be easy for the Irish player to achieve a win against the Windies in West Indies homeland.
