The cricket governing body of Bangladesh (BCB) has confirmed a tour to New Zealand in the month of January 2022 for playing 2 test matches series. This test series will be an integral component of the ICC World Test Championship from 2021 to 2023. The test series will start with the first match which will be held at Bay Oval, Tauranga on 1 January 2022. New Zealand vs Bangladesh test series 2022 will be concluded with the second and final test match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch from 9 to 13 January 2022.
Currently, Mominul Haque is playing the role of captain for the Bangladesh test team and most probably they will visit New Zealand under the same captain. On the other hand, Kiwis will play the test series under the captaincy of Kane Williamson. In terms of figures and experience, Bangladesh is far behind New Zealand in a test match and New Zealand is the number 1 test team in ICC ranking whereas Bangladesh is standing at the 9th position. New Zealand has also won the ICC World championship of test matches where they defeated the Indian team in the final competition.
The New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is one the greatest players and captains in the world’s cricket and currently he is at the number 2 position after England’s Joe Root in the ICC Test player ranking. Bangladeshi players have to work hard if they want to succeed in their upcoming tours. New Zealand is filled with lots of talented all-rounders, batsmen, and bowlers. Playing against New Zealand in their homeland is not gonna be easy for Bangladesh but they have achieved wins against Australia and England in the past so New Zealand won’t take them easy.
Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque has served his country in 45 test matches and scored 3349 runs with an average of 42.94. On the other side, Kane Williamson has played 85 test matches and scored 7230 runs for his country with an average of 53.96. As of November 2021, Bangladesh has played 124 test matches out of which they won only 15 matches, lost 92, and 17 were drawn with a winning percentage of 12.09. Bangladesh has faced New Zealand on 15 occasions in test matches but they have never been able to achieve a single victory. They have lost 12 matches and won 0 tests against New Zealand. The numbers and past records show that New Zealand has ruled over Bangladesh and is a very strong opponent. It will be interesting to watch how Bangladesh will compete against the number 1 test team in New Zealand itself.
