The cricket governing body of Australia has confirmed that they will visit Pakistan in the month of March-April to play a single T20 international match. The last time Australia traveled to Pakistan was in 1998, and after a long gap of 24 years, the Australian team will face Pakistan on Pakistan’s home ground. Obviously, Babar Azam will be the leader of the Pakistan T20 squad and Aaron Finch will lead the Australian team. The only T20 international match of the Pakistan vs Australia T20I series 2022 will be held at Gaddafy Stadium, Lahore on 5 April 2022.
There will be a chance of a very close competition because both the teams have already performed brilliantly in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup. Pakistan reached the T20 world cup semi-final where they met Australia and the match-winning innings of Wade and Stonis took the match away from Pakistan and defeated them by 5 wickets. The Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, one of the finest cricketers and captain is sitting at the number 1 position and he is in a good form which is a positive sign for Pakistan. On the other hand, Aaron Finch is not much behind and stands at the 4th position in ICC T20I player ranking.
Australia and Pakistan in ICC T20I team ranking stand at 6th and 3rd position, so here Pakistan is again ahead of Australia but recently Australia has won the ICC T20I World Cup and their opener David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and other players have shown mind-blasting effort in the finals. Pakistan won’t take it easy as Australia is one of the greatest teams who holds the record of winning ICC trophies most times.
Australia played their first T20 international match against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland on 17 February 2005. Since their debut in the shortest format of the game, they have participated in 153 T20I matches in which they won 78 matches, lost 69, 2 matches have been tied and 3 ended up without any result. As of November 2021, Pakistan and Australia have fought with each other in the shortest format of the game on 24 occasions where Pakistan got the victory in 12 matches and Australia won 10 times. So these numbers show that Pakistan has been a bit dominated and ruled over Australia. It will be interesting to watch them against each other as both the teams are in good form and there is not much difference in their past records against each other.
