In the coming year of 2023, the New Zealand cricket authority has decided and declared their schedule for the 3 ODI matches series between Pakistan and New Zealand. Pakistan vs New Zealand ODI series 2023 will commence on the 11th of January and conclude on the 15th of January 2023. The series consists of 3 ODI matches that will be played in Karachi on the 9th, 11th and 13th of January 2023. All three ODI matches of the upcoming series between Pak and NZ will be an integral part of the Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. It is interesting to note that both New Zealand and Pakistan made their debut in ODI against each other on 11 Feb 1973.
Most probably, current Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam will take the responsibility of leading the team whereas Kane Williamson will take the charge of the Black Caps. Despite the Pak skipper being at the top position in the ICC ODI player ranking, Kane Williamson has got plenty of experience as a captain who has the capability to flip the match anytime. Under the captaincy of Kane Williamson, the Black Caps have already played 81 ODIs in which they won 41 matches and faced defeat in 37 matches. On the other hand, Babar Azam has played the role of captain in 18 ODIs only where they triumphed in 12 and lost 5 matches. These numbers proved that Babar Azam is a successful captain of Pakistan with a winning percentage of 69.44.
Currently, New Zealand is in the 2nd position in the ICC ranking for the ODI team whereas Pakistan is standing in the 4th position. In terms of head-to-head in ODI, New Zealand and Pakistan have faced each other in 107 ODI where New Zealand successfully defeated Pakistan on 48 occasions whereas they faced defeat 55 times with an average winning percentage of 46.63. As of October 2022, New Zealand has played 13 ODI where they won 9 matches and lost 4 matches. Overall, the Black Caps have appeared in 788 ODIs out of which they triumphed in 263 matches and lost 278 matches with 7 ties and 40 matches without any outcome. On the other hand, Pakistan has contested 945 matches where they achieved success in 498 matches and faced defeat in 418 matches with 9 ties and 20 matches ended without any result.
The last time, New Zealand visited Pakistan was in 2018-2019 for 3 ODI series but the series was tied 1-1, moreover, New Zealand visited Pakistan in September 2021 but the match was not played and was canceled because of some security. So, it is going to be interesting to watch how New Zealand will play against Pakistan on Pakistani land.
