India will be hosting the
Champions League Twenty20 2014 starting from 13th September. Well, each edition of the tournament had different numbers of teams participating, this time it will be 12 teams battle, out of them four teams will play the qualifying round and 2 teams will train into the main fixture of CL T20 2014.
The first edition of the tournament held in 2009 organized by BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa. Generally, domestic T20 teams from seven top test playing nations participate in the Champions league T20. So, this year it will be the sixth edition of this international T20 tournament, here we take a look back at the winners of CL T20.
New South Wales BluesNew South Wales Blues is an Australian domestic first class cricket team which is now known as Speed Blitz Blues. They were the inaugural winners of CL T20 in 2009. Well, the team no longer participates in any T20 league of Australia. NSW competes in the first class cricket competition known as Ryobi Cup and Sheffield Shield. However, in the first edition of CL they defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the final by 41 runs.
Chennai Super KingsCSK is one of the domestic IPL teams of India, which won the second edition of the Champions League Twenty20 in 2010, led by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. They have played a total of 4 editions of the tournament out of five and reached to semi finals of CL T20 in the previous season. CSK defeated warriors in the final of CL T20 2010 by 8 wickets.
Mumbai IndiansMumbai Indians another Indian domestic T20 cricket team which participates in the Indian Premier League and have the best stats in the history of Champions League Twenty20. They have won the title for two times, i.e. in 2011 and 2013 as MI is the defending champion of the forthcoming edition of the tournament. However, in this edition they will have to play the qualification round to participate in the main fixture as they finished in the 4 the position of IPL 2014.
Sydney SixersSydney Sixers won the Champions League Twenty20 on their first attempt in 2012. 2012 was the golden year for this Australian domestic T20 cricket team as they won the domestic t20 league named Big Bash League in the same year and qualified for the CL T20 for the first time. They defeated Highveld Lions, a South African team by 10 wickets in the final of CL T20, 2012.
