The India’s tour of England was one of the most awaited tours in the cricketing world. It was necessary to see whether the new force of the team will be strong enough to face the tough challenge of the overseas conditions.
The first match was played at Nottingham and the pitch provided by the curator was quite different from what was expected. It was a flat pitch where batting was quite simple and the bowl didn’t do much for the bowlers. The 1st innings saw Indian team batting 1st and they scored 457 runs in the first innings. Murali Vijay scored 146 runs while Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 82 runs in the innings. James Anderson took 3 wickets in the innings. The English side came back well in the innings scoring 496 runs. Joe Root scored 154 runs and James Anderson scored 81 runs to help his team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 5 wickets in the innings. The match ended up in a draw as India scored 391 runs in the second innings with Vijay scoring 52 runs yet again and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scored 63 runs.
After a disappointing 1st match the series shifted to Lords. Here Indian team yet again batted first on a greener pitch. The team scored 295 runs in the 1st innings with Ajinkya Rahane scored 103 runs while James Anderson took 4 wickets in the innings. The English side struggled too as they managed to score only 319 runs with Gary Ballance scoring 110 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was yet again the star bowler taking 6 wickets in the innings. The visitors came back strongly in the 2nd innings scoring 342 runs. Vijay scored 95 runs while Bhuvneshwar kumar scored 52 runs with the bat. Indians set a target of 319 runs for English side thus having an upper hand. Ishant Sharma was the star player for India in the last innings of the match as he took 7 wickets to take his team 1-0 up in the series.
The 3rd test of the series was played at Southampton. It saw Alastair Cook come back into form as he scored 95 runs in the 1st innings. Gary Ballance and Ian Bell scored 156 runs and 167 runs respectively to take their team to a total of 569 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets in the innings. The Indian side was out cheaply as they managed to score only 330 runs giving a massive lead to the home side. James Anderson took 5 wickets in the innings yet again. The home side strengthen their position scoring 205 runs in the second innings it set up a target of 445 runs for the Indians but they failed to survive the test and lost all the wickets at 178 runs. thus losing the match and England side equalled the series 1-1.
The 4th match was played at Manchester. The 1st innings was a terrible one for India as they scored only 152 runs in the 1st innings. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the top batsman in the team scoring 71 runs. Stuart Broad took 6 wickets in the innings. the home side scored 367 runs in the 1st innings to take a strong lead in the game. the second innings saw Indian batsmen yet again failing to swinging ball. They were all out at 161 runs and thus losing the game by an innings. the match ended up in 3 days. Moeen Ali took 4 wickets in the innings.
The 5th and the final match were played at oval and Indian team yet again as team failed to score runs in 1st innings. They scored 148 runs as the top order failed yet again. Dhoni was the top scorer scoring 82 runs. Team England took a great lead in the 1st innings as they scored 486 runs in the 1st innings. Joe Root was the top scorer scoring 149 runs. Ishant Sharma was the top wicket taker for team India as he took 4 wickets. The Indian team needed to survive the 2nd innings but they failed to do so as were bowled out at a score of 94 runs. Chris Jordan took 4 wickets in the innings.
England completed a
series win by 3-1
and thus completing a great comeback in the series. James Anderson was names as the man of the series for England side while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named as the man of the series for Indians.
