First IPL T20 was played between April 18, 2008 - June 1, 2008.
The Bangalore team didn’t really have a great start in the maiden season of the IPL. The team lost out on their first match against Kolkata Knight Riders. They won the second match though against Mumbai Indians thanks to Mark Boucher but again lost in three of the following matches against RR, CSK and DD. Again, they won their 6th match against Deccan chargers but started losing out on the following matches, one after the other. Of the 14 matches played, the RCB could only manage to win in 4 and finished at the 7th position on the points table.
The Punjab team had a commendable season in the inaugural session of the Indian Premier League. Although the team lost out on the first two matches against CSK and RR yet bounced back with a win in the 3rd match against Mumbai Indians. The team suffered from the absence of two of its major players in the season, Simon Katich and Brett Lee, but other players managed to keep up the good work. Out of the 15 matches played, the team won in 10 of them and secured a firm place in the Playoffs. But, the team lost to Chennai Super Kings in the 2nd semi-final and left IPL in the 3rd position on the points table. Shaun Marsh, leading hitter from Punjab Kings, was felicitated with the Orange Cap for being the lead run-scorer in the series.
