Christopher Henry Chris Gayle baptized as Chris Gayle, a well known big hitter is a Jamaican player who represents West Indies. The left-handed tall batsman born in 1979 began his career in cricket in 1999 when he played his first match against Indian team at the age of just 20.
He has played the game and generally open the innings in all the three formats (Test, ODI, T20).He has established various nail biting records including hitting the first ball of a Test match for a six in 2012.
He is the only player in cricket world who has done this so far. Apart from it, he has also build another record of scoring two triple centuries among four players including a knock of 317 against South Africa and 333 against Sri Lanka. He was also given a chance to lead his team from 2007 to 2010 but in Test matches only.
He commenced his Test career in 2000 when he played against Zimbabwe. He has played a total of 97 matches and has added nearly 7000+ runs in his score card with an average of 42 including 15 crucial tons and 34 fifties. He played a superlative knock of 333 against Sri Lanka in 2010 and this figure was set as his best score in Test format.
When it comes to his ODI format, he played his first match just one year before the commencement of his Test career against India. He has represented his side in seldom 250 matches and has scored more than 8K runs with an average of 38 so far. He has played about 20 precious tons and 45 half centuries.
His best knock is of 175 (not out) against Zimbabwe which he played in 2001.
He was also announced as a Man of the Tournament of Champions Trophy in 2006 and in his presence West Indies won the same title in 2004.
Apart from Test and ODI format, he has also played various wonderful innings in T20 format also.
He is regarded as a HERO and holds heroic records in T20. He made his debut in 2006 against New Zealand. The first century in T20 format was made by Chris Gayle in 2007 when he played a blistering innings of 117 and became the only player to score centuries in all the three formats.
In IPL tournaments, he played for KKR initially and then for RCB in 4th edition in 2011.
Chris Gayle has added about 10 tons in his T20 format score card which also include a scintillating knock of 175 which he played in IPL 2013 against Pune Warriors India. He also holds a record of scoring a fastest century (30 deliveries) in any format. He is the only player who has done this.
In IPL 2012, he hit the most number of sixes(59) and was the owner of Orange Cap.
He not only shows his talent in batting but in bowling also. He has taken about 72 wickets in Test and 157 wickets in ODI format with an average of 42 and 35.38 respectively.
He has also taken 5 wickets in an innings twice in Test and single time in ODI matches.
Chris Gayle is well known for hitting the ball with a heavy bat and sending it out of the boundary.
