Herath Mudiyanselage Rangana Keerthi Bandara Herath is a Sri Lankan slow left arm orthodox bowler. Herath was educated at Mayurapada Central College in Narammala. He was born on 19th March 1978 in Kurunegala. He is a left handed batsman and stepped into international cricket in the year 1996. Herath is essentially a left arm spinner and delivers the well known ‘mystery ball’. This ‘Mystery ball’ is a quicker form of spin that heads into the right-handers. Herath is the Sri Lankan pillar during test matches as he can bowl long spells with never fading accuracy.

Career Highlights:

  • First Class debut in 1996-1997 representing Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club
  • List A debut in 1998-1999
  • Played in 2010 county Championship for Hampshire
  • Herath debuted in Test cricket against Australia on 22nd September 1999
  • His firs One Day International match was against Zimbabwe on 25th April 2004 at Harare. Sri Lanka won the match by 9 wickets
  • His first T20I was against Australia on 6th August 2011 at Pallekele where his squad won by 35 runs
  • First 5 wicket haul in test cricket was against Pakistan in Colombo in 2009.
  • First 10 wickets haul in test cricket was versus England at Galle in the year 2012.
  • Herath’s first T20I 5 wickets haul was at ZAC stadium in 2014.
  • Herath picked up 9 wickets for 127 runs in a single innings against Pakistan in 2014. This was one of the best bowling records by a left hand bowler
  • In the year 2012, he was the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket
  • He was the Man of the Match in the 2nd test match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in December 2011
  • Herath was the Man of the Match in Galle in the Sri Lanka vs England Test Series in 2012.
